Saturday we had 56 players in our New Year’s Day 2-Person game. It was a 6-6-6 format. Holes 1-6 were a captain’s choice, holes 7-12 were best ball, and 13-18 were Texas scramble. There was a seperate payout for each format and 4 different flights.

We would like to remind all members that family range memberships are $35 per month and individuals can pay $25 a month for unlimited use of the driving range. Members that do not participate in the monthly range plan must pay $3 per bucket in the pro shop and show their receipt to the cart staff to receive a bucket of balls.

Our staff is in the final stages of preparing the members’ event calendar for 2011. At your request, the Club Championship has been moved up to June and the Member-Guest will remain in October.

Grand Opening for the first LIFE LONG LEARNING CENTER in a gated community, ANDERSON CREEK CLUB. This unique facility appears to be the first of its kind in the nation.

Typically found in a college or university setting, the concept for an on-site facility for the community originated with David Levinson, developer of Anderson Creek Club, who believes that people today have a heightened desire to ensure that not only their children receive a sound foundation for learning and schoolwork but also to expand their own knowledge and experiences beyond their formal education. Residential developments and communities must provide facilities to meet their needs. The Life Long Learning Center & Patriot Hall

We are thrilled to announce that construction has started for the LIFELONG LEARNING CENTER at Anderson Creek Club. The building is located inside the entrance of Anderson Creek Club, just past the pool and recreation complex. One of the primary purposes of this new facility will be to house WONDER YEARS at ANDERSON CREEK CLUB – an early care and education program for children from 6 weeks to school age. Construction if off to a rapid start and we are working towards a Fall 2010 opening date. The center will offer early care and education for children from 6 weeks to school age; including preschool, pre-K, and before/after school care for K-5. Summer camps for school aged children will also be offered. Hourly care will be on a space-available basis. Our hours will be 5:45am to 6pm. Once licensing is achieved, Wonder Years will apply for both the NACCRRA military subsidy and More-at-Four programs. We anticipate full enrollment, however, priority will be given on a first come, first served basis to Anderson Creek Club residents until July 1, 2010.

British Soccer Camps provide players of all ages and abilities with the rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts. Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily tournament. Equally important, the Challenger coaching staff provides your child with lessons in respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership. Camp programs include a free ball and shirt and a free British Soccer jersey for on line registrations 45 days prior to camp!

Attention, Fayetteville homeowners: If you missed the news this past week, get ready to smile: The city’s housing market ranks No. 1 in the nation — again — for appreciating values in the second quarter, according to Zillow.com. The news spread like wildfire in the media — from Business Week and Forbes magazines to ABC’s “Good Morning America.” Zillow is a real estate Web site, which analyzes home values based on its own formula. According to Zillow, Fayetteville’s median home value jumped 13.4 percent since the second quarter of 2008. That’s well above the other markets in the top five for growth. They all showed appreciation of 4.2 percent to 4.8 percent. Nationally, home values fell 12.1 percent over the past year, Zillow reports. The median value in the U.S. is $186,500, the site says. In Fayetteville, the median value was $120,600, according to the company. Nearly 12 percent of sales in June were foreclosed properties, and 16.2 percent of single-family mortgages had negative equity. By comparison, 22 percent of U.S. sales were foreclosures, and 23 percent of U.S. mortgages had negative equity, Zillow reports. The best-performing ZIP code in Cumberland County was 28306, with 28.4 percent appreciation year-over-year to a median value of $137,600 in June. Also, properties in 28312 appreciated 22.7 percent to a median June value of $130,100. Two ZIP codes that include Haymount, the downtown area and several wealthier neighborhoods showed significant growth, too – 28301’s median value was $96,700, up 17.7 percent, and 28305’s median value was $162,300, up 11.8 percent. Rounding out the top five U.S. markets for home appreciation were: Oklahoma City, Okla.; Binghamton, N.Y.; Burlington, N.C.; and Gainesville, Ga. The worst-performing markets were in California and Las Vegas, where values plunged 31 percent to 40 percent over the past year. The median home value in Las Vegas was $140,500 in the second quarter, with 67 percent of June sales being foreclosures, according to Zillow. The company says its value estimates include all single-family homes and condominiums regardless if they sold during a particular period. It uses data from public sources for 161 metropolitan statistical areas.

A reason to celebrate: The Fayetteville housing market is tops in the nation for home appreciation.
